In 2009, a GOAL/SARAH/CASA team assisted the Kenya Medical Association to train 90 health care professionals in Nairobi to make the link between substance abuse and other medical conditions, such as HIV/AIDS. Another conference is being planned for May of 2011. Dr. Noel Ilogu with several other Addiction Medicine physicians will join with Dr. Peter Ngede in planning for the new conference.
GOAL/SARAH Project 2006-2010
GOAL has empowered Kenyans to make a difference in their own lives as well as the lives of others. The SARAH Network mottos of Each One Reach One and Becoming Change Agents set the tempo and motivated a successful completion of their three year PEPFAR/NPI grant.
In November, 2009, GOAL Project staff and board members SARAH staff and Board members in Kenya recently took part in a self assessment called CLOCA provided by USAID and administered by Academy for Educational Development (AED). In their summary report, AED said that 'through the work of GOAL and the SARAH Network, the lives of individuals, families and communities have been changed, in terms of their experiences with substance abuse and HIV/AIDS.'
