The Mission of Global Outreach for Addiction Leadership and Learning (G.O.A.L. ) is shaped by Luke 10:37 - "Go and do Likewise". GOAL seeks to carry the message of 12-Step recovery from addictive diseases to Christian Communities and others globally and to minimize the impact of addiction on the spread of HIV/AIDS, domestic violence and human trafficking by creating communities of wholeness.
For over 13 years, GOAL has partnered with individuals, groups, churches, NGOs, companies and organizations around the world to provide quality educational experiences for churches, health care professionals, and individuals. To accomplish these objectives, GOAL has partnered with USAID, the Florida-based NET Institute, ISAACS, World Witness, the Orthodox Christian Mission, Gateway Rehabilitation Center and the Community of Celebration in Aliquippa, PA.
Drawing on our resources as part of the world-renowned International Substance Abuse and Addiction Coalition (http://www.isaac-international.com) and our many years of experience building courses and curricula, GOAL helps clarify an organizations' needs, provides expert consultation and develops customized educational programs delivered by our experienced mission trainers.
GOAL has initiated the following programs and projects:
- The Opora — Center in Russia
- The St. Dimitri Outpatient Program in Cluj, Romania
- The SARAH Network in Kenya
- The Belize Prison Project in Belize
In December 2006, the United States Government, under PEPFAR, chose GOAL to be one of the recipients of its Round One, New Partner's Initiative ('NPI'), because of GOAL's pioneering substance abuse work in Kenya and other countries (Russia, Romania, Egypt, and Honduras). Under the USG-NPI grant, GOAL was awarded a million dollar three-year grant, managed through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and its consultant, AED, to continue its outreach in Kenya to train leaders and to assist in the organizational structure of a newly formed Kenya NGO called the Substance Abuse Recovery and HIV/AIDS (SARAH) Network. GOAL has also received grants from the Fifth Ave Presbyterian Church Benevolence Fund, the Church Periodical Club, along with many individual and church donations.
When the USG awarded GOAL the NPI grant, it did so because of GOAL's expertise in substance abuse leadership development and training and providing the linkage between substance abuse and the spread of HIV/AIDS. Under the USG-NPI grant, GOAL, through the SARAH Network has successfully help build the in-country capacity of the affiliated community-based organizations who have been members of the SARAH Network.
